WHAT IS THE DARK WEB?
All internet content can be split into three areas: the Dark Web, Deep Web and Surface Web.
The Dark Web is a portion of the internet that is intentionally hidden from public view. Hackers and cybercriminals access the Dark Web to trade in illegal products, including stolen data e.g. usernames, passwords, bank details and other sensitive information.
Privatised online content, such as online banking, email servers and company databases, are hosted on the Deep Web. Unlike the Dark Web, these sites are legal and, for the most part, secure. The Deep Web is the largest target for Dark Web cyberattackers.
Meanwhile, the internet that we use every day represents only a small proportion of the World Wide Web. Search engine accessible content accounts for just 4% of all internet content; this is known as the ‘Surface Web’.
Keep your Surface and Deep Web content secure by ensuring that your data is not being traded illegally on Dark Web networks.
HOW DOES THE DARK WEB THREATEN MY BUSINESS?
Your company network may be protected with security software and firewalls, but you can’t control data breaches on external sites. When your employees use their work email address on third party websites, your business credentials become vulnerable.
Cybercriminals target the websites we use everyday, such as:
– eCommerce sites
– Travel services
– Online banking
– HR and payroll systems
– Email services
– Communications providers
– Collaborative document stores
– Social Media.
By uncovering usernames and repeated passwords on these external sites, hackers gain unauthorised access to your company’s network. This is because 80% of hacking-related breaches leverage either stolen or weak passwords.
Compromised credentials can be used to access your business accounts and database. This data can be sold on, corrupted or held to ransom. Cybercriminals can also conduct further criminal activity, in your name!
Contact Linten to help detect any exposed credentials, before they breach your secure system.

Cybercriminals work quickly. So we use a combination of automated search intelligence and human analysis to scan the Dark Web in real-time. We proactively monitor and identify any compromised or stolen data associated with your staff and customers.
Our monitoring service operates 24/7, scanning the depth of the Dark Web. Connecting to Tor, I2P and Freenet, we access and observe activity on Dark Web sites, including:
– Hidden chat rooms
– Private websites
– Peer-to-peer networks
– IRC (Internet Relay Chat) channels
– Social media platforms
– Black market sites
– Over 640,000 botnets
Using our Dark Web ID platform, we provide extensive reporting on all domains that we support. Live reporting allows us to track and triage any incidents before they become business critical.
Prediction and Prevention
With over 80,000 email logins compromised every day, we can map industry patterns and trends that may affect your business. Our data insights enable us to protect information from a security breach, by targeting vulnerable areas.
HOW CAN I PROTECT MY BUSINESS DATA?
Dark Web Monitoring
Linten are one of the only companies in the UK who offer real-time Dark Web monitoring. Stay one step ahead of cybercriminals with live reporting if any of your business data appears for sale illegally.
Data traded on the Dark Web preys on people who use the same password for multiple accounts. Protect your personal information with encrypted, randomised passwords, safely stored in our cloud data centres.
If a hacker does purchase your username and password on the Dark Web, make sure they can’t gain access to your accounts. Multi-factor authentication combines passwords, security questions and temporary access codes to ensure that only you can access your secure systems.
